Re:How do I say
I'm a beginner in Italian myself, but in Spanish - "how are you" is "¿Cómo estás?". :-)

Re:How do I say
hi, I'm Italian. the right translation in my language is:
"come stai?". This is an informal way, you say this to your friends,to young people, to your family and the the people you know well.
but if you're speaking to your boss or somebody older than you, it's more polite to say "come sta?"

Re:Re:How do I say
so, this means there's no possibility of using 'come vai', is there? I was dead sure it was ok!

come va?
"come vai" isn't properly correct... "coma va" is correct. "come va" is a synonym of "come stai" and "come sta"; we never say "Come vai" .
ciao!
