I Need help with this, I heard somebody say "one of the better" and I think is wrong but it was said by a native speaker And he insisted that he was right. Can somebody help me please? Thanks!!

It would depend on what he was saying with it, but "one of the better" is technically correct. For example, if you are talking about a type of car that is a really good model, you might say "The Ford Mustang is one of the better cars on the market". There are better ways to get the point across, but grammatically, that is not wrong to say.
He might want to say something like "Better than Most" so the statement above would go "The Ford Mustang is Better than Most of the cars on the Market". Both are correct, but I can understand why the first example sounds wrong.
