Old message on look-alike words.
I found an old message, number 2283, written by Javier Bustamante on August 19, 2002. He writes about words from different languages that look alike, but mean very different things, sometimes rather rude things.
As I’ve studied more than a couple of foreign languages, I’ve had some experience with this, and I have posted a couple of replies, but since the message is so old, it’s not likely people will run into them, unless your in the habit of looking at all boards in a single list (“View all messages”, at the bottom of the main Bulletin Board list), or unless you’re interested in the oldest messages in the Jokes area.
So, I thought I’d let you all know. The comments Javier made (in English) are interesting and fun, and I hope that the comments that I have added in response will spark some interest as well. So if I’ve aroused your curiosity, go look up message 2283, read it, and the responses that have been posted. I would love to read of any similar terms others of you have run across.
Talk to you later,
