Danish culture
Hi, I would like to hear from some Danish people about your culture. My boyfriend is from Denmark, but I just want to get another perspective on things. I may consider moving there one day, but leaving everything I know, which is American living could be frightning. Send me a message if you have any thoughts and would like to talk to an American living in California.
Cheers!

Re:Danish culture
I am from the states originally and lived in Europe for many years I found it very interesting to be there but to find work very difficult. Though I like Europeans very much -no matter where you go there is an anti-american sense of things. I found myself always haveing to appologize and to try to explain things-which was often taken for defending the USA. There are American groups -usually associated with the embassy or military bases-and the hords of american tourist especially in the summer.I now live in Canada for 12 years and am still an outsider.once you leave the states for a while and get a view of the world other than what isnt given to us as we grow up-then it is even harder to be understood at the place where you grew up-unless you are one of many Americans who move from job to job-Adous Huxley wrote in Doors of Perception that no matter how hard one tries to be understood-accepted-even in the heights of the throes of love one is still alone. Denmark is great-my sense is Danes really like people who come there to really appreciate the place, shed alot of baggage(hard to do for us etnocentric Americans)dig in and contribute to the place dont take it for granate(sp?) do alot of volunteer work join clubs

Expatriatism
Pavel, I was impressed with your message. I was wondering if you have ever read any of Edward Said's work. He's a brillian man and an expatriate like yourself, and I think you would have a profound connection with what he writes.
I lived outside the U.S. several years, and always with other Americans, so I have a very superficial experience of what you describe. But reading your message helped me to see something of what Said talks about.
Thanks!
