Looking for ppl interested in Georgian culture and language
Georgian language is one of the oldest languages of the world and it shaped the Georgian culture for centuries. How? for example, the language does not recognize gender_ he/she/it, male, female, neutral, etc. but what it does do is to divide objects into 'soulfull'(sulieri) and 'soulless'(usulo) cateories, therefore when you say i have a wife vs i have a car, you'd use a different verb. This small fact shows the impact a language can have on culture. How? just one example: 'lekvi lomisa storia, dzu ikos tunda hvadia' is a line from Shota Rustaveli's Knight in the Panther Skin, written in 12th century. It translates: 'The cub of a lion is equal to a lion, were it female of male gender'. I'm looking to form a small group(2 to 5) of people in Brooklyn, New York, to teach basic Georgian language for free, in a library type of setting. Plz don't email me for a language partnership, I am only interested to teach once a week for 2 hrs. :) Thank you!
