Hai,Jian:

I find it an interesting topic though not easy to translate what you want to chinese mandarin. I think it is difficult may be due to different culture and it is in actual fact different from social talk, that's why.

I suppose you may still say "zuo jiao xiang qian, you jiao za hou" to instruct your student to keep the whole posture of "left leg infront of right leg" for the very first move. Then, followed by "you jiao xiang qian" if you want them to do the second move. And continue to say "zuo...you...zuo..." for a repeating/
continuing movement.

You may also say "huan bian" instead(which means change to another way/side, i.e. right leg infront of left leg).It sounds odd to say "huan tui" in actual fact, because it means to change a leg, then an amputation will take place, and an artificial leg will be needed. ha! ha!

But sometime it depends, some couldn't be bother whether it's odd as long as the other party understands. They just don't care for proper grammar.

By the way, what race are you and what about your students? Are they Chinese?

hope it helps or anyone can have a better translation?

Bye!

Regards from shopa.
