Details: I am a Native English Teacher and have a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults by Cambridge University. I am currently teaching at Alumni and teaching privately. I charge 65.00 reais per hour for private students. I a very flexible with class cancellation as long as I am told before class and given my schedule I may be able to reschedule cancelled class. As to my methods, I believe students should do most of the talking during lessons. I use an interactive conversational teaching method in a private class. I like to set up talking exercises and activities while providing either hot and cold error correction as required. I like to confirm the aims of future classes before in order to prepare classes to focus on those aspects; for example a specific grammar lesson looking at target language or specific vocabulary. The method does not require the student to be of a certain level. The student will begin conversation at their current level and progressively acquire stability and enhancement. Stability can be achieved by interactive private conversation in English. As well as correction and training in pronunciation, grammar and the most common usage of American English. Enhancement is achieved by the introduction of technical vocabulary, phrasal verbs, idioms, slang and improving listening skills. Conversation with a native speaker is the basis for all classes, with correction in grammar and pronunciation and new vocabulary. Exercising conversation in a private class enables students to express themselves, thoughts and ideas. I believe when learning language students need to immerse themselves in the language and try to expose themselves to the language as much as possible (talking, reading, TV,..). As well, I think students do not need to remain in a classroom or apartment. I often take my private students to malls, for coffee and even go to the gym while giving lessons. I like to conduct classes similar to case study methods used in most MBA schools. Depending on desires I am open to using and following a text or keeping the lessons more free flow focused. I have access to a lot of materials and can produce lesson plans as required. Again depending on aims I can focus on general or conversational English, business English, scientific English or specific test preparation. After every class I e-mail a feedback sheet to students using the following format: Feedback/Overview of Errors: grammatical errors/improper structure/word order/tense: new/misused vocabulary: omitted words: pronunciation errors: Plan: All material needed for classes are provided, it is not necessary to buy any books. Intermediate and advanced level students can bring the study books they have or wish to buy and use for home study. I also like to use magazines, news articles, e-mails or any written material that students want to use to learn. Robert |
