My proficiency is Japanese is nil. I study Wado-Kai Karate and have learned a few basic things like how to count to 10, how to say thank you, etc.
I wish to learn Japanese as a personal interest, I find the culture intriguing not only in my study of Karate, but other aspects as well like music and anime.
The re are no areas I need particular improvement as I have not yet really begun the task.
The amount of time I wish to dedicate to lessons will be based on teacher availability and cost of the lessons. I will practice diligently when not in class on my own time.
Qual ities I would look for in a teacher are patients and enthusiasm.

I Want to learn Japanese because of my interest in the country and culture.
I would like to spend at least a couple hours a week on lessons or more if possible.
I would like to be taught by a fluent teacher, who can present material in a fun way and also has a good knowledge of the culture to share at the same time. Someone who is flexible, being able to explain a range of topics from honorific, formal, plain or slang expressions. (sometimes I hear lots of different things from shows, which time to time lead to a lot of questions.)

I am a beginner. I am learning because my wifes family does not speak english. They live in Turkey I am going there in July 2009. I would like to be able to have a conversation with them. I will spend as much time as necessary so I can have a conversation with them. I am a fast learner and my wife is Turkish so she can also assist me.
