I have not experience in the language. However, my husband is Arab, and I would like to learn and communicate with him in this rich culture. He is often overseas in business and we both speak English. I have always been interested in various languages and this would be a good start. I would dedicate more time when he is away, maybe 2 hours - 4 hours a week. and when he is in town - less time as I have to accommodate him.
I would like the teacher to communicate well in explaining the proper protocol in the language and culture.

I may be traveling to China in about a month and a half, but don't speak any Chinese. I need to learn as much as I can in the very limited timeframe. I hope to be able to ask for and understand simple directions and be able to communicate costs of goods and services (food and hotels). Anything else is gravy.
To accomplish this, I'd like to have at least three lessons per week during weekday evenings, each one about 45m to an hour. I will also be practicing what I learn with work colleges who speak Mandarin.

I am female Engish speaker of Irish American background.
Working in Ireland a few years ago I visited family on Valencia Island was shocked to realize how foreign my Grandmother's first language was to me. I picked a few books to begin to study.
I am an absolute beginner, but I am keen to learn. Would like to be with a language study group but would work with a tutor as well. I would like it to be a fun so I am motivated to keep it up. I would like to pass the language down to my children and grandchildren .
