1. Why you are learning your foreign language: I work in Turkey frequently and am planning to move to Turkey within the next year. As well, I love learning languages (I speak 5 other languages and have studied two others).
2 . Proficiency level: Absolute beginner.
3. Areas needing improvement: Well--everyth ing!
4. How much time to dedicate to language lessons: When I'm at home, I could do a couple of hours per week online, plus homework in-between. I travel frequently with my work, and when on travel, it is difficult to keep up with a regular study schedule. So, my schedule would be intermittent.
5. Qualities in lessons/teach er: I have a lot of experience learning and teaching languages, so I appreciate understanding the grammar (a framework) and enjoy learning pronunciation and idioms. An inductive approach does not work as well for me. I expect a teacher to be helpful, supportive, and non-judgmenta l. My learning style is to take in a lot before being able to produce much--and then being able to produce quite quickly. So, I appreciate a teacher who is happy with a lot of absorption at first.

I am looking for one on one Cantonese instruction. Previously, I had taken levels 1 and 2 Mandarin instruction through U of T with success. We also studied traditional characters which I feel gives me a good base to begin learning Cantonese. I have traveled to Hong Kong several times in the past few years out of interest, and my partner and his family speak Cantonese. In terms of my learning objectives, I would like to take lessons once or twice per week in order to become proficient in speaking, writing, and texting. I would also prefer making a more long-term commitment to my learning as I would like to become proficient.

I would like to learn some cantonese for my future career development. As a beginner, I wish to learn cantonese in daily conversation. I'm not sure how much time I would like to spend on learning totally, but I hope I can have three to five hours on a weekly base for the first month. I would like to have a female teacher with nice patient, and be able to accept my personal suggestions or recommendatio ns.
