I'm originally from Germany and have lived in the US for quite a while. I have a fascination with languages which has led me to learn Spanish and French along. Dear potential teacher,
I am currently in the military and have about 3 years left, however when I get out of the military I plan on finishing college and hopefully persuing a career in special education. I have had the opportunity to work with some children with Down Syndrome, and would love to continue working in special education. I may not always need to know sign language to communicate to the children, however I am very interested in learning to communicate this way and I'm sure it will be helpful. I will get a book and start to teach myself but I would really love to work with a teacher one on one or in a class. My schedule is very difficult though, sometimes long hours. So I was hoping to find a tutor with a flexible schedule. I also dont have very much time left in San Diego because my ship is changing home ports to Japan in June 2007, so if you could help me out in any way or know anyone that could it would be greatly appreciated. The sooner I start the better off I will be in the future. I have a true desire to work with these children because we really have so much to learn from them. I will learn sign language sometime whether it is now or when I leave the military, but I would love to start now. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.

I work for Italian owned company and most of my co-workers are native Italian or speak the language very well. Of course, I have picked up on a little bit but I would not consider myself anything more than a beginner.
I am the only one in the upper management of my company that does not speak Italian and just as that makes me uncomfortable at times, I believe it makes some of my superiors uneasy as well.
I would like to spend 3-6 hours/week (1-2 hours, 3 times a week) to start with. I feel that once I get a solid base, speaking with my co-workers will really help my advancement so I may then, want just a few hours a week.
