I'm a beginning student of Arabic. I'm particularly interested in learning the Egyptian dialect, which I understand to be a bit easier to learn. I'm a little familiar with the Arabic alphabet. I speak several other languages, so I'm able to pick up accents and sounds very well. I wish to dedicate about 2 hours a week learing. I'm looking for a warm, patient, and friendly teacher. I have taken classes at Rice which were very good, however my schedule does not permit me to make all classes. I took Russia I and II however that was three years ago. I understand the alphabet and can read, I just don't know what I am reading most of the time. I manage my company's Moscow office and am there about every 8 weeks right now. I have been wanting to learn the language because I feel it is important to be able to communicate with my employees and clients in their native language and that they should not have to compromise for me. I have books and tapes but without someone there pushing me, I get bogged down with work and do not push myself. I would like someone that can come to my office one to two days a week as I feel that I will be better able to learn in that arena.

I have been learning Portuguese through extensive travel in Brazil. I am a fluent Spanish major at a university here in Portland, and am now fairly profficient in speaking and reading Portuguese. My main difficulties lie in basic grammatical errors due to learning only through listening and using a similar, but not entirely correct, Spanish format for what I have not picked up through conversation based learning. I would like to learn to speak more fluently because I speak other languages and have traveled throughout countries where foriegn languages are spoken, but I have never had such an amazing connection with a culture or language as I experienced during my time in Brazil. I would like to spend two to three days a week practicing grammar and speaking with a teacher who is open to speaking with me and helping me with my errors. I would hope that this individual would be as interested in teaching the language as I would be in learning it.
