My name is James Ramsey and I have been studying Japanese for over five years. I studied Japanese in high school for two years and studied independently in Okinawa, Japan for three years. My goal is to become a translator and work in Japan. I am looking for a Japanese language school or training school or some way for a foreigner to study Japanese in Okinawa. Japanese is a very personal language for me because most of my friends live in Japan and I want to successfully communicate to them in Japanese. sukina hito mo okinawa ni iru kara desu. If you have information on these schools it would be greatly appreciated. I know of Ryukyu daigaku but I don't know about their language department or even if a foreigner can attend. I am an operations officer at Ft. Drum, NY. My unit is currently preparing to deploy to Afghanistan and we are in dire need of translators to bridge the language and cultural barriers between our unit and the locals in our area of operations. I am interested in learning Mandarin Chinese starting at the beginner level. I have traveled to Taiwan several times over the last few years on business and learned a small number of phrases. I am very interested in the Chinese culture and would like to be able to converse well. I would like to start with the basics but would also be interested learning how to write eventually.
