I am looking to either take a class or have a private teacher to help me learn Japanese. I am definitely a beginner; however, I know some basic conversationa l Japanese, and can recognize a few kanji and most hiragana/kata kana. I woud like to be able to meet at least once a week. I would prefer to have a native speaker of Japanese teach me, but it is not necessary. I am currently 16 (a sophomore in high school); I am very interested in Japanese and languages in general (I'm taking a French class at the moment), and I will work hard to learn everything I can about Japanese!

I'm a beginner. My wife is Vietnamese, but refuse to teach me the language. When I go to her family parties (a lot of them) sometimes I feel left out because they start speaking Vietnamese. I want to surprise them when I speak some sentences to them. Also, I really felt out of place when I went to VN last year and could not talk to any of her friends. I tried the tapes and books to learn words, but the tones of the language I think is the key to learning the language. I need someone to help me to learn the proper way to pronounce the tones and words. You cannot get that from a book or tapes.
