I recently started attending and volunteering at a Swahili speaking church here in Louisville Ky. I will be volunteering with the children who do know how to speak English. However, most of their parents do not speak English, and the entire worship service is done in Swahili. Swahili is a beautiful language and I would really like to learn how to speak Swahili, with the goal of becoming fluent, so that I can understand the worship services that I am attending as well as interact with the adults of the church.
As of right now I would be considered a beginner in the language because I have no real knowledge of the language or how to speak it at all, other than a couple words. I work 12 hour days Mon-Thurs so my availability would be Friday, Saturday and Sundays. I do stay pretty busy so as of right now on a busy week I would probably have anywhere from 5-10 hours to commit to learning the language on the weekends and I could self study during the week. The qualities I would like in a teacher would be someone who is fluent in the language and who might also have some knowledge about the culture. I would work hard to pick up and learn the language but would need a teacher who is patient considering this would be my first time ever trying to speak the language.

I want to continue learning Kiswahili because I just spent four semesters abroad in Kenya and want to become even better. I would consider myself intermediate in my proficiency. Grammar, conversation, vocab. This summer I would like to spend 2-3 hours a week. I would like a teacher that is experienced, has energy and is motivating.

Hi! I'm wanting to learn Swahili because I have so many friends who speak and who are from Kenya. I'm also dating a man who is Kenyan and he wants me to visit his family in Kenya. I would feel more comfortable about going if I'm able to communicate better with his friends and family. Plus I love the language I need Help! Hello, everyone!
My name is Adam Fechter. I am 18 years old and leaving to university in September 2012. I know English, French, and Spanish, but am looking to study Swahili because I am going to work as an urban developer in the south-eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. By the time I head off to university, I would like to have a strong foundation and know a basic-interme diate level of Swahili. I know absolutely none of the language as of now, but am a quick learner and want to learn as much as I can in the amount of time I have.
As for my teachers, I just need for them to be able to go at my pace. I have read a lot about worldwide linguistics, so grammar will come much more quickly for me than will vocabulary. I would like to dedicate as much time as possible and affordable to my lessons.
