I am a Canadian citizen who has been to Tanzania twice - once to volunteer, and most recently to marry! My husband is fluent in English but his native language is Swahili.
Our long-term goal is for me to become a permanent resident of Tanzania,ther efore learning this language is crucial.
On my first visit, i took 2 lessons, and since my return to Canada have tried to teach myself through books, but I am having no success in learning this language and becoming utterly frustrated! Maybe it is my age, or the fact that I have not been to school in years, or that I simply don't have the self-discipli ne, but I need help!
I would really like to make my husband proud and be able to at least speak and understand basic Swahili.
I need an instructor with patience and a sense of humor,and I am willing to dedicate as much time as it takes for me to learn this language.

I would like to learn Swahili because I want to widen my intellectual horizon and learn an African language. I'm a beginner and know no Swahili whatsoever. I would like to be tutored in Swahili once or twice a week and I can spend many hours doing homework in between the lessons. I am looking for somebody to help me learn to speak Swahili because I will be going to Kenya for 4 months in September. I am a beginner, I don't know any of the language so I would be starting from scratch. I would like to focus on conversationa l, but some reading/writi ng would also be beneficial. I could dedicate 3-4 hours per week in classes/meeti ngs and an additional 3-4 studying independently . I'm looking for somebody friendly who can speak both Swahili and English and who will be patient with me! Some teaching experience is an asset.. formal or informal.
