Hello!
I have been on a holiday in East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania) for almost a month. As a result, I would like to become a member of an NGO setting up good projects for Tanzania.
For the moment, I cannot yet allow to leave Belgium and go to Tanzania as my son is still a student. But I could begin by working from here and start to learn the language.
I would like to do this with a local teacher if possible, since words and accents in Swaheli are not the same everywhere. My nationality is Dutch, but I speak French and English fluently.

Why:
I am learning Swahili so that I can communicate more effectively with my Tanzanian friends.
P roficiency:
I have been to Tanzania four times for varying periods of time ranging from two weeks to nine months. I have been learning Swahili using Simplified Swahili by Peter Wilson but the result is that I am much better at reading and writing than I am at speaking and listening.
Time:
I would like to spend 2 to 3 hours a week which would either have to be in the evenings or at the weekend.

I worked in Tanzania for 2 years about 30 years ago and learned basic/interme diate swahili. I would like to re-learn the language and become more fluent, I would like to go back to tanzania for a holiday and maybe work. I have just complted a term at SOAS [School of Oriental and African Studies]on the upper intermediate swahili course and cannot attend this term because of work commitments on the evening of the class. I would especially like more practise with listening and speaking, and some direction to improve my understanding of more complex grammar.
