We have a daughter with progressive hearing loss and we would like to learn sign language as a family in order to communicate with her more effectively. We are at the beginner level presently with help from dvd's, books, and flash cards. We would like to begin with one to two hours of weekly instruction. We are looking for someone who is fluent in speaking and signing the English language (SEE).

I decided to pick up sign language so that I may teach my children (when I do begin a family)and also so that I am prepared to interact in different settings. I am in the process of applying to graduate school, and I plan on majoring in social policy, considering so, I am certain that I will be put in situations where having learned sign will come to be a great help. I am also extremely interested in learning the spanish, french and Italian languages as well. I would definitely be considered a beginner in the language of sign. I would most importantly like to master conversation, rather than just developing a vocabulary. I work quite a distance from my hometown in Philadelphia, therefore a few hours during the weekends would be excellent for me. I am looking for a very understanding , patient and strict teacher. I would appreciate the pressure to become more fluent. I would appreciate someone that sets goals/timelin es or expectations of me as well.

Hi,
My main reason for wanting to learn sign language is my passion for children. I have my Cert 3 in children services, i've worked in child care for over a year and i have travelled to india to teach basic english and maths to children in an isolated, small village. I now have an amazing opportunity to travel to Africa and build, teach, be involved with an awesome project and my fear is that I will arrive and a child may be deaf and i won't be able to communicate with him/her or they won't have an opportunity to learn so i could teach them sign language and they all get a fair chance.
I am a beginner
I am studying at the moment full time 8am-1pm/mon-t hurs... so lessons would have to be after 1pm maybe x2 a week.... depending on how much time the teacher has.
I'm looking for someone patient. With all the tarvelling I've done i've NOTICED WHEN IT COMES TO LEARNING DIFFERENT LANGUAGES i'm not one to learn fast. So I need someone patient, relaxed, fun and happy.
