I want to learn American Sign Language (ASL) as a way to communicate with deaf/hard of hearing patients in my work (I work in health care). I have some understanding of the basics, but need somebody to practice with to improve language reception. I need to improve vocabulary, language reception, and fingerspellin g speed. I would like to practice for at least 1 hour per week.

I have always wanted to learn ASL for many years. So now that the kids are grown, I can finally dedicate the time to learn this beautiful language. I have tried some online self-paced classes but I feel that it is more beneficial to me to have an exchange with a person to cement what I have been trying to learn. I do know the alphabet and can fingerspell a bit, but I am having trouble signing words/phrases to form sentences and cannot find a community to get the feel and flow of a conversation. I am flexible during the week and sometimes on the weekends and am willing to work out a mutually convenient schedule. I learn better with a little structure but love a sense of humor.
