I am a beginner in Italian. I want to learn this language because my husband's family is italian. We have 3 small children and I would like them to learn the language also. I would like to have tutoring once a week with myself and my children. The qualities that I am looking for in a teacher is someone who is non-threateni ng, encouraging and will keep the lessons interesting for children!

Lessons would be for four members of the same family.
The Grandfather was born in the US of parents born in Italy, so he is very familiar with the language but has never used it regularly.
The Father has been speaking Italian for business purposes for nearly 15 years. While his ability to speak and write Italian is reasonably good, his ability to understand Italian, particularly when spoken quickly is not as good as he requires. In school he had five years of Latin and two years of French.
Th e Mother was exposed to Italian, spoken by her Grandparents (Grandfather' s parents) when young. In school she had two years of Spanish.
T he Daughter (13 years old) studied Italian when she was 5 and 6 years old, at a special school (supported by the Italian Government) located in Boston's North End. Lessons occurred weekly. She currently studies French in Middle School.
Th e family still has relatives in Borgia (Calabria), with whom they want to communicate regularly and visit more frequently. The Father conducts business regularly in Italy. The family qualifies for, and is applying for, Italian citizenship. Therefore, it is important that all develop fluency in the language.

I am a 'mature' learner--have been studying Italian for 5 years once a week for pleasure. I love the country and culture and plan to continue travelling there when possible. My proficiency level might be considered intermediate and I would like to work further on conversation skills primarily, with some emphasis also on grammar, as well as reading comprehension . My first 3 years of instruction were at UBC Continuing Studies and the past 2 years, a friend and I were tutored privately by a native Italian teacher in her home. Since her return to Italy this summer, we are looking for a new native Italian teacher, ideally someone close to our ages who is able to meet us either in his/her home or one of ours.
