Jina lingu ni Ray Johnson. To begin my reasoning I must say I have always had a desire to learn other languages. Sadly in America you don't have a vast amount of languages presented to you. I love Africa, and my desire is to make staying and being active in the countries betterment my norm. I believe my proficiency in Swahili to be in the beginner category heading toward intermediate daily, unlike Amharic which I am still a beginner. The biggest improvement I need in my studies is the access to one who is fluent in order to reach mastery level. The only qualities I desire in a teacher is fluency and a passion to mold others into fluency of his/her native tongue. Tafadhali unaweza kufundisha mimi.Asante.

I travel to Kenya annually for two months at a time and would love to speak the Kiswahili language. I have tried self taught programs and I get stuck then find it difficult to continue. I need to be able to build and learn as a child would learn. My husband and I try to speak to each other with the few words we've picked up that we remember, but soon after returning to America cannot recall what we thought we knew in Kenya. I want to be able to have a conversation and not just look at the Kiswahili speaker with a blank look on my face when a simple greeting is given. I can work around most any schedule to accomplish this goal. I do not need a formal class or schooling, just interested in learning.

I am planning a trip to Kenya next year to volunteer with an orphanage and also meeting my boyfriends family. I am wanting to be able to go to Kenya able to speak fluent swahili to interact with the people. Also I would like to be able to put on my résumé that I can speak another language. I am looking to spend a couple days a week meeting with a teacher to learn this beautiful language.
