Description |
Why you are learning your foreign language I want to learn the Slovak language because I lived in Slovakia for several months but I was unable to find the time to learn the language. My objective is to be able to have a basic conversation with my friend entirely in Slovak. I hope to spend the summer learning Slovak in Bratislava so I want to be at least elementary level when I arrive. Your proficiency level I am a beginner The areas in which you feel you need particular improvement I need to learn all the basics, vocabulary, grammar and speaking How much time you want to dedicate to your language lessons I would like to start with a couple of hours a week and then maybe begin more intensively.
What qualities you are looking for in your lessons or in your teacher? I need a teacher that is patient, friendly and able to identify where I am weak and pursue that course of language learning. My objective is to be able to have a conversation, so we can start with that target. I don't learn from drilling grammar, I learn much better by learning words and phrases, repetition of those phrases, and then understanding the grammatical construction of those phrases in order to allow me to be able create my own phrases.

Description |
I am married to a Dutch Lady and we wish to bring our children up bilingual in Dutch and English. The stumbling block, I think, is that our children would be more inclined to use the language if I spoke Dutch at home rather more than the occasional 'Dank u wel'. and 'Dag'. My wife speaks to them - and myself for non-urgent/un complicated matters - in Dutch, and I have been using the Klare Taal book to learn basic Dutch grammar.
H owever, I feel that more practise with listening and speaking and, therefore, thinking in the language would initially be more useful to me at present. We visit my wife's family in the Netherlands at least twice a year, and we do have access to Dutch satellite TV and radio.
Rea listically, I could only spend one 1-2 hour session per week, but have the advantage that I could practise what conversation I have learnt with my wife, and could also put in the grammatical work using Klare Taal.
I would be willing to try online tuition (presumably via Skype) or face-to-face if it proved to be more effective. At present, I have weekday mornings available since I work afternoons/ev enings (though this may change in future), and with my children just back to school, this would be an ideal time to start tuition.
If the tutor could focus on speaking and listening practical day-to-day 'household' Dutch, (knowledge of the Brabant regional accent would be a plus!) that would be a great start.

Description |
I am 18 years old, 19 at the end of this month, and I have spent just under 2 months in Cambodia this year teaching english at a school just outside Siem Reap. I am going back to teach for another 2 or 3 months next summer, and my long term plans are to move to Cambodia after I finish my university degree. It is for this reason that I need to learn how to speak Khmer to a high enough standard to be confortable enough having a conversation with the Khmer teachers I work with as well as the students, and to feel confident enough to live in a country where I don't speak the language properly.
I would like to spend as much time as possible learning each week, but the cost of the lessons would influence how many I could have per week (as I am living on a students budget. Iddeally I would like 2-3hours of tuition a week.
It would be great if I could learn basic sentence structures and grammar in a conversationa l style, and i would prefer to be taught by a native speaker as this would mean my pronounciatio n would be far better, but if that isnt possible then a teacher who if fluent in khmer but not a native speaker would be fine.
