Description |
I want to learn Persian. I have studied both Farsi and Dari on my own, but I am having trouble getting past the beginner phrase and retaining vocabulary. My goal is to read Hafiz and Mevlana in the original, as well as to be able to converse.
I often find that language-lear ning involves some discussion of our personal lives. I love getting to know people of all backgrounds, world-views, religions and nationalities . By the same token, I am a gay man and I hope you will not waste your time with me if you are confused with homophobia.

Description |
I learn foreign languages for pleasure. I have done some self study in the various languages I'm interested in -- have grammar books and simple children's books to use as 'primers' (until now I've only tried to learn to read -- not deal with the spoken language) -- but working with a teacher would hopefully give me some focus and additional motivation.

Description |
I am interested in beginning level Turkish. I have just returned from a trip to Turkey where I had a wonderful time. I am an artist and would like to participate in the 2009 Istanbul Biennale art exposition. I have other offers for art shows in Istanbul. Although many people in Turkey speak english, it would be very helpful to speak Turkish. Conversation is my top priority with proper grammer and cultural understanding . I am interested in starting lessons in January 2008.

Hello,
We are a middle-aged American couple who would like to learn sufficient Croatian so that we may travel independently in Croatia, converse with Croatian relatives without use of a translator, and, eventually, conduct genealogical research. We have studied other languages (Spanish, Italian, and German) and find it essential to learn the basic grammar of a language - not just the 'foreign language for travelers' type of instruction as provided with some language tapes. We essentially know no Croatian.
We would like to be taught in an 'immersion' setting (i.e. in Croatia), at least eventually. We also think that some basic lessons via the internet might be useful to get started. Zagreb would likely be the most central location for us to study but we are willing to consider other locations. Also, we are flexible in our travel plans but would prefer late summer or early autumn 2008 (i.e. mid-August through early October).
Since we are business owners, we would need to take time away from our business to travel to Croatia for lessons. Therefore, we might have only two, or maybe three, weeks for instruction.
Questions for potential instructors:
1. As an instructor, what might you offer to us to (begin to) meet our needs in this time frame? 2. Do you feel that after two weeks of lessons we might be able to negotiate a train, order in a restaurant, etc? Or would it require at least a month to be able to do this? 3.What type of instruction would you propose (how many hours per day, etc)? 4. Would you suggest some on-line lessons prior to arrival? 5. Are you available to teach lessons 5-6 days per week for two or more consecutive weeks? 6. Would you be willing to assist us with locating lodging during our stay?
Than k you for your consideration of my lengthy request.
S incerely, Kar en Yori
