I would like to learn basic Amharic, to expand my relationship with the native people I work with in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I know some basic amharic words and phrases, but not enough to communicate on a level I would like. I want to focus on learning basic question and answer responses, and everyday sentences that would be used. I would like to spend at least twice a week learning amharic to ensure that i comprehend, and learn the basic skill skills i need in a short amount of time. I am a beginner. I have been trying to learn this language via 'do it yourself' disk and book lessons. Being that this is a tonal language I'd feel more confident in learning with a native of the language.
I am learning this language because I am marrying into a vietnamese family and I am not vietnamese. My mother in law only speaks vietnamese and I wish to communicate with her...my husband only speaks and understands it & cannot read or write it...he speaks primarily english.
We plan on having children together and I want to teach my children this language as well.
I need to learn Conversation! ! & grammar...als o culture if possible.
I will dedicate as much time as necessary...I 'd like to learn excessive amounts each month.
I 'm looking for a friendly teacher, someone who isn't discriminator y against other people in blatant or subtle ways at all.. Also someone who KNOWS the language and isn't afraid to tell me if I sound like garbage when I speak it...because I want to speak it and not get laughed at haha!
