Conversational , focused on speaking English and listening to spoken English, with some work on spelling and reading. Depending on your reasons for learning English, we'll establish goals and objectives for each lesson.
English-s peakers don't stick to the conversationa l speed limit, so I'll teach you to listen for words you know to understand what's being said, and speak the most commonly-used English phrases, or "language chunks." As you add more phrases to your speech, you will be able to speak and understand English without memorizing how to conjugate verbs or learn lists of words by topic.
This is language learning at its most practical, much the same way you learned your first language. I don't insist on an English-only classroom. We'll use translation apps to increase your English vocabulary, reading, and speaking skills. Memorizing grammar and verb conjugations and vocabulary words doesn't produce fluency. To learn to speak a language you have to speak the language. I'm h... |

I believe that language is not a monolith. Its flexible nature means that attempting to acquire ‘mastery’ is not as important to me as the process through which language skills are acquired. Therefore there are no attempts at seeking perfection or uniformity in methods of learning in my classes; each language student’s preferred way of learning is encouraged. Because in classroom situations language levels of proficiency are bound to differ for the student flexibility in teaching is of paramount importance. I take the view that every step of language learning is a successful step including what might initially appear to be errors.
To this end, I prefer classroom situations where students are encouraged to lack inhibition about making grammatical 'mistakes'. I like it when students discover that words appear to have limits and that in some cases use of body language is crucial to enhancing communication . During oral assessment specifically, getting grammar 'correct' to me is of less... |

Study of a language should not be approached as a difficult or tedious task. Learning Russian will take much time and effort, but it can be a fun experience if both the teacher and the learner are able to go beyond the idea that the language is "foreign." I start out by telling my students that Russian is neither more nor less difficult to learn than any other language. Believe it or not, even grammar is fun! I try to help my students feel confident in their learning abilities. For those who wish to go beyond the beginning level, I can help to arrange for study in Russia with experienced native instructors. |

My teaching method utilizes a combination of exercise drills, games, videos and other activities tailored to the desires of the student. Games and roll play activities help the student master the spoken language, while homework and classwork exercise drills provide grammatical knowledge.
The curriculum is designed to engage the student in the language. Language learning can be both enjoyable and academically rigorous at the same time. |
