I believe that language is not a monolith. Its flexible nature means that attempting to acquire ‘mastery’ is not as important to me as the process through which language skills are acquired. Therefore there are no attempts at seeking perfection or uniformity in methods of learning in my classes; each language student’s preferred way of learning is encouraged. Because in classroom situations language levels of proficiency are bound to differ for the student flexibility in teaching is of paramount importance. I take the view that every step of language learning is a successful step including what might initially appear to be errors.
To this end, I prefer classroom situations where students are encouraged to lack inhibition about making grammatical 'mistakes'. I like it when students discover that words appear to have limits and that in some cases use of body language is crucial to enhancing communication .
