I have a keen interest in language teaching methodology and curriculum design and management. My primary pedagogical objective as an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instructor in Japan was to have students produce naturally sounding speech using two-way, real-time communication ; that is, to have learners actually take part in conversations and activities in the target language. My EFL instructional approach consists of a mixture of adapted components and principles stemming primarily from Communicative Language Teaching (CLT)/Task-ba sed language teaching (TBLT), the direct method, and the Immediate Method (IM). I later began to apply principles of the Immediate Method to my instruction and curricular approach and it proved highly effective specifically with large groups of pupils.
