I spent 19 months in Germany during the Cold War. I learned to speak enought German to travel, order in restaurants, and hold basic conversations about myself. I learned the structure. It's the nouns I don't know. Ich habe eine klein Lager I'm der Wald. There's actually a Menonite girl who is the only one I can still speak German with. I miss speaking German so much.
