I would be considered a beginner in the study of the Chinese language although I have been studying the language on and off for the past 4 years. It has mostly been self study with some tutoring and formal training in China.
I feel that I can speak fairly well but I cannot understand when I am spoken to (ting bu dong).

My name is Jonathan Thames and I am a student at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. I am majoring in Southeast Asian Studies and am extremely interested in working with the region in any way possible, be it politics/dipl omacy, interpreting, assisting refugees/immi grants here in the U.S.A., or working and living there -- I am also interested in poverty-allev iation, providing food for the hungry, and assisting the marginalized groups in any country. I am fluent in English, proficient in Spanish [Mexican/Sout h American], am studying Mandarin Chinese, and have studied Thai and Khmer[Cambodi an] on my own. I was not able to take the Thai class yet but would like to begin immediately in learning and a tutor is one option I am willing to consider. I am able to dedicate as much as 10 hours a week to language lessons. Thank you!

I am a beginner level. I know some words mostly about food. The reason I want to learn is I'm adopted from Korea but I only know English. I would like to speak Korean with my friends and go back to Korea to visit. I have time after 7pm to learn. I feel more comfortable learning in a class or tutor.
