I am a beginner (have never studied Bahasa Indonesian and know 2 words, maybe...). My husband is half Indonesian and we travel to Indonesia regularely. I would like be able to converse in Indonesian while visiting family and travel throughout Indonesia knowing the language; as a result, I'd like to focus on conversation in my lessons. I would like to dedicate 2 hours a week to my language classes. I'd like my teacher to be based in NYC and be preferably a woman; I'd like my teacher to have expereinec in teaching Bahasa as a foreign language and make the lessons interesting through topics that I cna use in every day life in Indonesia.

Proficiency: Probably intermediate.
Reason for learning: Enjoy learning languages. May go to Brazil as a teacher of English as a Second Language and I think the language of that country would be helpful.
Imp rovement needed: Primarily in smoothing out my spoken Portuguese, but also improving my comprehension of the spoken language. I probably also need improvement in grammar, but I can (and have) learned grammar by myself from books.
Time I can devote: I am retired, so I can devote however much time I decide I want to.
Qualitie s I am looking for in a teacher: One who will teach me what I want to learn instead of just jumping on his/her horse and riding off in all directions, teaching me what he/she thinks I need instead of what I know I need.
