Re:Thrillers are good but how about comedy???
I loved "The Princess Bride" by William Goldman. The movie they made out of is was great, but the books was, of course, better.
I've never had the pleasure of enjoying it in Voltaire's original French, but I loved "Candide".
We could probably do better if you'd like to tell us more about your sense of humor. Comedy is always so hard to pick for other people. Especially when you don't know them.

Re:Re:hi
Donc, on y comprend rien. Sinon, en philosophie, je suis en train de lire un livre de Luc Ferry, donc philosophe français actuel, qui explique justement aux jeunes, ce qu'est la philosophie, et c'est très bien fait.

Joyce Carol Oates
Hi,
For those of you requesting book recommendations, my girlfriend and I are reading Joyce Carol Oates' novel, Foxfire. We had seen the Angelina Jolie movie that had been inspired by the novel, and it really wasn't bad. But naturally the novel is much better so far (we're ready to begin part 4 of 5 now)
The writing is excellent, and the structure of the story is intricately crafted, and it's a story with a tremndous amount of meaning in it. I recommend it with great enthusiasm.

Re:Western Literature Anyone?
Eva, ÄãºÃ£¬
I'm Mark Springer, and I love literature (of any culture, but I have my master's degree in English Literature. I've read lots and lots of Shakespeare (I have to confess, my favorite play is still Hamlet, though I was really impressed with All's Well That Ends Well. I love that Shakespeare takes a traditional theme and turns it upside down to show what a terrible disadvantage women have compared to men.
I'm afraid I don't know nearly as much as I'd like about the Classic Greek/Roman works. Perhaps we can both learn a lot from each other. Please tell us more about works you have enjoyed, or if there's anything we can explain or clarify for you. ×£

hi there everybody! just a few lines to suggest you all to read some Agatha Christie's book...she surely doesn't need to be introduced and I've read most of her novels, and i think she's superb! ...now I'm looking for something else to read, thrilling and with a great sense of suspence but with no blood descriptions.
can you advise me anything?

Western Literature Anyone?
Hello. I'm an English major student in Taiwan. Would like to find someone who likes Western Literature. It's a fascinating subject but it's too broad to be studied alone. I'd love to discuss Greco-Roman mythology or the masterpieces of Shakespear with anyone who has the same interest. Feel free to drop me a line!

Re:Poolman
Hi,
I'm Peruvian and I have read the famous Pullman trilogy "His dark Materials". Pullman is a clever atheistic writer and you'll find in these books the kind of arguments - masterfully disguised inside the plot - usually found in discussions between believers and non-believers. Moroever, Pullman seems to have a strong scientific basis because he writes about superstring theory, evolution and other issues normally not so known.
Even when this trilogy is written for teens (as far as I know), I recommend its lecture.
Saludos desde el Peru! (greetings from Peru)

Re:Hay algunos libros buenos? Any good books someone wants to recommend?
Hi Alexandra, This winter I read The Kite Runner and last week I finished The Attack by Yasmina Khadra. They are both excellent, though riveting would be a better description. Trata de conseguir un CD de Ruben Blades. Es talvez el mejor exponente de la musica latina. Es muy profundo. Suerte, Ibrahim
