I am going to take Beginning level Chinese (Mandarin) at college this fall, and I would like to get a head-start on learning it over the summer. My proficiency level in Mandarin is that of an absolute beginner.
I've done some research about the structure of the language (i.e. its four tones, and the nature of Chinese characters), and I've been told that my pronunciation is very good, but other than that I am a novice.
The main purpose of my study this summer is to gain basic conversationa l skills in Mandarin, and to strengthen my pronunciation . I have books and a CD set to study from at home, but they cannot provide interactive conversationa l skills.
I am learning Mandarin Chinese due to: a genuine interest in Chinese culture and history, a desire to speak in Chinese with my Chinese friends, and also the realization that it is a good investment, as China's geo-political influence continues to grow.
I would like to meet for lessons once per week (or possibly twice if I can afford it). I am a motivated, respectful student who gets along well with people and has a good sense of humor.
I am seeking a teacher who is good at explaining things in a simple manner, who is familiar with the difficulties that English-speak ers have with learning Chinese, and who is passionate about teaching Chinese.

I have travelled numerous times to Italy, and work there for 6 months. By the end I spoke relatively fluent Italian, for never having studied. But now have forgotten most of it. I am trying get a refresher course as well as learning the grammer. I return for a month or two to Italy at the end of August and I am looking for a fast-paced affordable option.

Althought I have studied Spanish in the past, I still consider myself at the beginner level. I would like to learn Spanish not only for the daily convenience, but career advancement and all the advantages associated with being bi-lingual. I need improvement in all areas, I think the most difficult thing for me was conjugating the verbs into past and present (muy difficil !) I would like to dedicate a lot of time to my lessons however cost will determine that. In a teacher I am looking for someone who is patient, and knows how to relate material to the student. Someone who is willing to make learning fun and interesting.

My husband knows some Ukrainian words, but wants to learn the language, as I am a native speaker. He is British (he knows some french, but that's about it).
