I want to learn this language because I think it's good way for my international studies,when I get to college. I am some what of a beginner I have already started teaching myself,but I learn better from a teacher. I plan to live in South Korea when I am finished with my studies. * I study Khmer and other Asian languages out of a natural love and enjoyment of it, but also hope to one day find employment utilizing my language skills. Working as a translator would be wonderful, but simply being an English teacher with the advantage of having greater insight into my students through knowing their language would be sufficient enough reasoning for me.
* I would still consider myself a beginner, but have approximately 5-600 words in my vocabulary, and read and write fairly well. I am completely self-taught up to this point in time.
* The area where I need the most instruction is in using the vocabulary I've learned, and weeding out words that are less commonly used in colloquial speech. Much of my vocabulary has come from dictionaries, with no samples of usage. I believe my accent is pretty good, but could use some improvement. Vowels are difficult, and I would like to be absolutely perfect in my pronunciation .
* I have never had a foreign language teacher before, but I would imagine the most important quality is that they understand first, what it's like to learn a second language as an adult, and secondly, to understand what my ear is able to keep up with at each stage. I've surprised and confused native speakers with my reading, writing, and vocabulary being so far ahead of my ear and conversationa l skills.
