Hello,
I am a third year Stanford student who began taking Hindi at Stanford this autumn. I am taking Hindi for two very important reasons. First, I have a significant other who is fluent in Hindi/Urdu, and I would like to be able to speak to him and his family in Hindi. Secondly, I am hoping to go to northern India this summer to do fieldwork in Sufi musical traditions, which would require me to have at least a year of exposure to Hindi before going. This academic quarter, I found that I had another course that conflicted with the second quarter offering of beginning Hindi. I realized that since only one section of beginning Hindi was offered at Stanford, I would need to look to outside sources to continue with the language. I have studied Hindi for about 12 weeks, and have beginning vocabulary, sentence and question formation, and a good grasp of the script. Conversationa lly I am timid, so I feel I would need to improve this before potentially going to India. I am very busy during the week am willing to do two hours, twice a week. Evenings (around 7) would work best for me. I would like my teacher to be patient with me, but also be honest about what I need to work on. I am hoping that my lessons will inspire me to do outside work and to progress rapidly. In terms of starting and ending dates for the lessons, I would like them to run throughout my academic term. The term begins the week of January 4th, 2009 and ends the week of March 8th, 2010. It is quite possible that I would continue for the next academic term as well.

I would like to learn Arabic because it's part of my culture and I think it's critical that I can use it. Also,I am getting married in a fre months and my inlaws are all fluent in arabic. I would say I'm a beginner. I need improvement in conversation. The most time I have is 2 and a half months before I move away. I would like for my lessons and teacher to help me understand the language. I want to be able to make sense out of it, not just memorization.

I am Italian by heritage. My grandparents were fluent but never taught my parents. I would like to speak Italian for my own sake, not for a job or any other reason. I plan to visit Rome soon and would like to be able to converse with the Natives. I am looking for someone who is obviously fluent in Italian conversation as well as grammer, but also someone who has proper English grammer. My instructor should be patient and able to make teaching fun and enjoyable. Also, I prefer a non-smoker. I have no gender preference and would like at least 1-2 hours per week of lessons. I plan to go to school go to college soon and wish to study history. Im really interested in French history but need the language to beable to read the primary sources as well as work in the country as I one day wish to do. I am looking for 2 tutors right now, a Mandarin Chinese tutor and a classical Arabic tutor. I need them for two kids, a 4 and a 5 year old. The tutors must have experience in teaching kids that young. It is preferable that they have a specific method designed for teaching kids. I will need two consecutive hours for each language.
