I would like to improve in my conversationa l skills; I am not to worried about grammar. We adopted our son, Evan Vanya, from Vladivostok, Russia in 1997 when he was two years old. He now speaks perfect English, he is in the 4th grade, and although he has made slow progress with reading and writing, he is catching up. For the first two years of his life the only language he ever heard or spoke was Russian. We believe it is important for Evan to know the Russian language so that he will more clearly understand and appreciate his heritage. Also, as an educator myself, I know that children who learn a second language become better at learning in other subjects as well. I would like to learn Russian along with Evan. It would be ideal if we could find a tutor who lives in the Sacramento area with whom we could meet and learn the language. At this point, we are interested in learning general, conversationa l Russian.

To whom it may concern,
I wish to learn Danish for travel purposes. In June of 2006 I will be traveling to Denmark for an International Rotary Convention and plan to stay on an extra week or two. While on that trip I will most likely be staying some of the time with a host family in Coppenhagen. Although most Danes I've met speak English, I do not want to take anything for granted when visiting their country. It's important to me to make the effort to learn as much of their language as I can before visiting. Partly to aid in my travel, but also to enrich my journey and show respect to my hosts and others I may encounter.
My level is beginner. Conversationa l/travel Danish is where my interest is. I also realize learning a new language involves dendrite activity in the brain that is desirable. So, I view this as mental exercise. I would be interested in learning other languages in the future, but currently my search is for someone who can teach me Danish. While I would prefer one on one face to face lessons. I would consider internet or some other format.
