I am a native English speaker (American), curently working on a doctoral degree, and am interested in learning to read and speak Dutch for academic purposes. I am interested in learning the basics of grammar, pronunciation , etc., with a primary need learning to read and translate (with dictionary help) scholarly articles in my research, so a familiarity with academic research would be helpful, but not essential. I have stusied German for many years and am relatively fluent in it.

I would start at beginning level. My mother came into the U.S. in the 50's from Japan and had a very difficult time because her English was limited. During the 50's in was, to her, very important that I be very 'American'. So, japanese was not spoken to me, just English. I would like to learn the language enough to make my Mother happy and go to Japan.
I work full time 9 - 5 Monday - Friday. Looking for a teacher who can teach after work. Weekends are difficult.

I lived in Jordan for over 2 years where I learned conversationa l Arabic. I want to continue studying the language 1-2 times per week. I need practice in conversation and want to learn more vocabularly and grammar. I really enjoyed my time in Jordan and the Middle East, and want to continue studying Arabic and learning about the Middle East.
