I suppose the best way to answer the question, why are you learning a foreign language?, to communicate. To answer more practically, I am studying linguistics and, obviously, having in depth knowledge of any language is beyond helpful. Currently, in Russian, my level of proficiency is beginner, though I am a fast learner. I learn grammar and conjugation the fastest, while I conversation and vocabulary are always needing improvement. I love learning languages so I can spend up to four hours a day studying. Granted, this is not an everyday practice, but still. I look for teachers who have a good grasp of grammar, rigorous lessons and exercises, and of course, easily makes the material accessible.

I visit Ireland every year and have made approximately 8 trips and I'm going again in May, 2010. The reason I'd like to learn Gaelic - or at least the basics - is so that I can pronounce the towns, basic words and phrases, etc. I always butcher the town names, something my Irish friends in ireland fortunately get a kick out of.
At some point soon in my life, I'd also like to live in Ireland (which I actually did for a 2 month period a couple of years ago) and again, knowing the language would of course be very beneficial.
So, I'm trying to find a way to learn it - whether with a live tutor or with an online class. Hopefully, there will be someone with whom I can hook up with to teach me that is in the Chicago area. Thanks.

I am a new learner to Persian Farsi. I currently have a proficient level of French and Intermediate Arabic. I learn languages quickly and want to intensively study Persian. I have a high appreciate for Persian culture and would like to further develop my language skills for career advancement as I am a political science university student and would like to be an advocate for international relations.
I am very disciplined and dedicated. I like to learn fast. I need to learn from the very start first. I am familiar with the alphabet. I would mostly like help with the basics first and gradually learn grammar, pronounciatio n etc.
